Campo Santa in Yungay, Peru. This local cemetery in Yungay was wiped out along with the village and its 18,000 inhabitants by a devastating earthquake in 1970. An enormous mass of ice and granite was dislodged from the west face of Mount Huascaran’s north peak and it buried the entire village. A very small number of inhabitants were able to survive by reaching the elevated statue of Christ. The entire area is now a memorial to the event.
